Relax in beauty of lavish Tsitsikamma
18 September 2010

WITH an exceptionally chilly Cape winter just behind us, it's best to stay on the move and get the circulation going a bit. If you are looking for an action packed holiday adventure, then the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park is your playground. The Tsitsikamma Section is considered one of the most spectacular national park areas in South Africa and possibly the world. Indian Ocean breakers pound rocky shores beneath 180m high cliffs, impenetrable evergreen forests and fynbos roll down to the sea in a lush carpet where ancient rivers have carved their path to the ocean through dark mystical gorges. This spectacular park is the very definition of untouched wilderness. The coastal reserve stretches some 5 km out to sea, protecting a multitude of inter-tidal, reef and deep-sea life. Dolphins frolic in the breakers and the gentle giant of the ocean, the southern right whale, visits seasonally, coming inshore to breed. This captivating world of rivers, cliffs and beaches dramatically unfolds against a backdrop of lush forest and lofty mountains. Hiking trails wind through dense forest and wild river gorges, affording you the opportunity to encounter the Knysna Loerie, or one of 30 new insect species recently discovered here. Camp in the heart of the forest or on the dramatic Tsitsikamma coastline. To add a bit more luxury to your stay, make use of the wonderful accommodation options ranging from backpackers to four star forest lodges. Storms River Mouth Rest Camp also provides a shop with souvenirs and basic commodities, an a la carte restaurant, Laundromat and information desk. Fuel is available at Storms River Bridge (±25km from Storms River Rest Camp). Feel, touch and breathe in the Garden Route as part of nature, and not just as a detached observer. With fully equipped camp sites at an amazing reduced rate and a huge range of other accommodation options available, wouldn't you enjoy hiking deep in the forest, kayaking up a wild gorge or just relaxing.
