- The Billabong Pro - 14 to 24 July
- Jeffreys Bay is known worldwide as one of the best surfing destinations on the planet with perfect weather conditions and a coastline which affords it a place in the top 10 best high performance surf locations in the world. This seaside town is now one of the most popular in the country with its pristine beaches and superb waves bringing in surfers and tourists alike all year round. Every winter, 32 of the world’s top ranked surfers converge on Jeffreys Bay for the annual Billabong Pro J-Bay event; the fourth stop on the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour. This event takes place at the 300 meter stretch of coastline known as Supertubes, regarded worldwide as the best right hand point break on the planet and brings in crowds from all over the world who are treated to ten days of world class competitive surfing. Although Jeffreys Bay gets good waves throughout the year, the best waves are experienced during the winter months from June to August, which means that the 10 day event waiting period falls perfectly into the most consistent wave season. This year, the event takes place on 14 to 24 July and will undoubtedly see supporters from all over the country getting behind last year’s champion, local hero and current world number 2 surfer Jordy Smith, as he defends his title. Previous winners of the event include surfing greats Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, the late Andy Irons and 10x World Champ Kelly Slater.
